Noise seal

Conama Resolution no. 20/94 and INMETRO Ordinance no. 430/2012

The IBAMA together with INMETRO instituted in December 1994 the Silence Program, whose objective is “to encourage the manufacture and use of machines, engines, equipment and devices with less noise when of its use in industry, vehicles in general, civil construction, housewares, etc. ”.

Conama Resolution No. 20/94 established the mandatory use of the Noise Seal in appliances produced and imported and that generate noise in their operation.

Today the program covers three types of products: hair dryers, blenders and vacuum cleaners, for home use.

The Noise Seal itself aims to provide the consumer with information about the noise emitted by these appliances, giving the user the option of making the choice of the quietest product, as well as encouraging the manufacture of products with a lower noise level.

The regulation in force at INMETRO that deals with the Requirements for Conformity Assessment of the Sound Power of Household Products is INMETRO Ordinance No. 430/2012.

The laboratory is accredited by Cgcre according to the methods and procedures described in the ordinance above, which are:

  • Blender (ABNT NBR 13910-1: 1997 & ABNT NBR 13910-2-3: 1998)
  • Hair dryer (ABNT NBR 13910-1: 1997 & ABNT NBR 13910-2-2: 1998)
  • Vacuum cleaner (ABNT NBR 13910-1: 1997 & IEC 60704-2-1: 2000)

Process for obtaining the Noise Seal

How the process for authorizing the use of the Noise Seal and its maintenance works can be seen on the IBAMA website.

The Ordinance that brings the Specific Requirements for Conformity Assessment (Ordinance 430/2012) can be consulted here as well as Ordinance 388/2013 that provides clarifications regarding the application and scope of the program, which can be viewed here.
